Vendor Biography

Named after our family patriarch (father/ father-in-law/ grandfather), Virgil’s Plants and Produce, LLC was launched in 2021 after years of adventures and misadventures in backyard gardening. It was Virgil Bullard who wanted to leave a legacy for our children by digging a relatively small rectangle in our backyard for them to garden. 

Admittedly,  I will confess that the earliest years were more hits than misses as we toiled in the Houston area summers, and sometimes giving in to the heat (which was not nearly as dreadful as it is now). Gardening was, at its best, a hobby when it was convenient. 

As time marched,  we learned more terminology that would change our approach to gardening completely.  We learned terms like no-dig, no-till, or permaculture, or hardness zones.  Most importantly,  we learned to eat not only as a way of filling our bodies, but also as a means of healing what ails us. We began to embrace food as medicine.

Now over a decade later since that first garden that Virgil dug for his grandchildren,  we stay true to the values he instilled in all of us: hard work, integrity,  and the pursuit of excellence. We stay thankful for the ability to grow our own and to feed our family and others. Finally, we want to pass our blessings and our insights gained over the years to the communities around us, near and far. Our motto is “don’t just eat; heal,” and our desire is to partner with you so that we can all do just that.
